Today my husband and I have decided to be responsible. We have been boat owners for six years now. I love spending the day boating. It's especially enjoyable when we take our dogs and they get to swim in the water and chase the birds. It's like they have a permanent smile on their face all day. However, this summer we have had yet to get our boat in the water. First of all, it needed a major cleaning. Secondly, the battery needed fixed, and lastly, the cover has been broken since the week after we bought it. The snaps get rusted and more and more just pop off the cover until finally we have been unable to snap any of them. Owning a boat is major work and with me being pregnant I have not been able to help nearly as much. Typically I would help with the detailed cleaning but with mold from the winter I can't think that's good for the baby. Add all this work in addition to now having a zillion chores around a farm and preparing a nursery and each weekend we've just run out of time. My husband's been working his tail off and then asking him to fix the boat, put it in the water, and drive us around is not relaxing. To top it off, we have one sturdy winter car but the other car we have is a two door convertible (not at all safe in the winter). Since we live in the country back roads sometimes take days to plow. I don't want my baby in a two door convertible on unplowed back roads and have my husband (or me) having to rig a car seat in the back everytime we use the two door car. So, it is with a heavy heart that we've come to the realization that it's time to sell the boat and invest in a nice four door truck for my husband. Plus, I really don't think we will be putting our newborn baby on a boat anytime soon. Sometimes it's really hard getting old and responsible! I'm so sad - boating used to be a big part of our summer lives and it feels like a chapter is closing...
